They tell us that "WellFit is a reunion party to celebrate the athletes that participated in the 2010 Cologne Gay Games. It is a club night with a difference. It has three distinctive areas: the main dance floor headlined by internationally famous DJ Jack Chang, the interactive play area, with pool, wrestling and WiiFit, and the front bar area with an exhibition of LGBT sports and social clubs – an ideal place for networking."
We're guesing/ hoping/ begging that admirers can attend. We worry that they really mean play in that play area tho?!
We were out of town last weekend and missed news of a serious fire at Chariots in Shoreditch. It started at 6am when there were 150 men in there - the saunas fire system was apparently working well and sounded allowing everybody to get out safely.
We've spoken to a lovely sounding French chap (call to Shoreditch are being diverted to Vauxhall) and they do plan to re-open as soon as they can repair the damage - half the ground floor was badly damaged so it might take a few weeks.
Gay guys have ended up on the street in towels before at Chariots when the wine warehouse went up in flames. Anyways, no injuries but a bit scary and embarrassing we guess.
Apple have approved another anti-gay App. Back in November they approved a free app where you could sign a "declaration" against gay rights, gay marriage etc. They removed it a week later after a successful petition on change.org. This time it's an app from religious nutters Exodus International that claims to cure people of homosexuality through prayer and therapy. These kind of therapies have been repeatedly shown to not only not work, but to damage the people who undergo them. There's a new petition for it to be removed. Sign here.
Two gay men have been arrested at a private gym for having sex in the steam room. Pink News says "The pair, who were understood to have been in the sauna at the Virgin Active gym in Barbican, were arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency after staff called police."
Our contacts there say punters and staff were getting sick of gay guys using the place for sex and that it was getting out of hand. We're told they won't be charged and their identities have been protected.
Tickets to this year's Brighton Pride on Saturday 13 August will cost £17.50 on the day. However, early bird tickets aimed at locals will be on sale soon for £8.50 while general sale tickets will be £12.50 - no word where to buy them yet.
Organisers say the cost is as low as they can make it. The cost of running the event has doubled to £1/2m since the police called for Preston Park to have lots more policing and to be completely fenced off. They hope charging will put off trouble makers. So, if you think £17.50 is a bit much chances off you getting one of those tickets is remote - there will only be 45,000 tickets on sale compared to last years numbers of 160,000 attending.
East End Gay Pride has been cancelled by its organisers. It's demise has been developing and a quick look at previous postings will show the painful death it suffered. On the one side there were fears that it was being manipulated by far right groups. The organisers alleged sour grapes from local gay groups. We thought it might just be a bunch of PC gays going hysterical and that they should pull together and make it happen. We don't understand why that hasn't happened but hope it does in the future.
The whole thing has an East End air of The People's Front of Judea but lets hope a stand can be taken and taken together. This is about building bridges not destroying them.
"Continue reading for the organisers bitter statement alleging sour grapes...
Tatchell has issued a statement saying "OutRage! is not supporting East London Gay Pride, following the revelation of links between some of the organisers and the right-wing English Defence League. I have also withdrawn my personal support. We fear the march will be exploited and hijacked by the far right to create divisions and stir up intolerance against Muslim people"...
In 1981 Toronto's bathhouses were raided by the police. We rioted. Thankfully some gay filmmakers managed to create this important historical document. Canada's gay news website's running a great microsite on the events and it says "It is one of the most complete records of the events, and might be the only moving picture version...
The makers say “What became very apparent as we made this film is that the Toronto police department had a plan to close down the gay community,” says Sutherland in a 2008 video interview. “The first part of that was closing down the bathhouses. As the story unfolded, it all became obvious that the police department was responsible to nobody in Toronto. It was actually responsible to the Ontario Government.” This video's the best but there are other interesting ones over at Xtra!.
(ALERT! There are several seconds of blue screen at the beginning. It's also not edited in the sensational way we're used to now... but well worth sticking with it.)

UPDATE! One of the organisers of the Pride event has resigned after it was revealed he WAS a member of the English Defence League and other far right groups. Raymond Berry has now gone and organisers hope they can celebrate Pride in the East End without far right groups hijacking it. The fear now is that the event was being hijacked by far right groups and we wonder if the groups calling for it to be cancelled were actually justified? MESSY!
Hard On is moving to Factory 65 (65 Goding Street, formerly Club Life, behind Chariots). The last one at Hidden will be on Saturday 26 March and the launch at Factory 65 will be on Saturday 16 April, 10p-5am - moving from the last Saturday of the month to the third.
Factory 65's not as huge as Hidden but it's nearer Vauxhall and should make for a tighter fit;)
