Westminster Council today announced that it's ashamed of its lousy gay credentials and wanted to say sorry.
In a long statement/ confession of past sins they told us "What with trying to ban the gay flag in Soho and policing clubs so heavily we decided it was time to give something back. So, starting today, we're rolling out new "super cottages" or pissoirs for our gay boys."
Dame Judi Dench and Sir Richard Branson have called on the government to rethink its drug strategy and basically, legalise drugs. Or rather, decriminalise them. Yes, "moves afoot", "calls for..." etc...
Mohammed Hasnath, the 18-year-old “Muslim fanatic” who put up loads of those “gay free zone” stickers around the East End has been fined.
The Daily Telegraph reports how they caused outrage among the community, with one Jewish resident saying it reminded him of Nazi signs his mother had faced in the 30s declaring the area a "Jew free zone". It’s a shame Mohammed might probably missed the point being made there.
To quote her: "Anarchist philosopher and revolutionary feminist Emma Goldman is rumoured to have written that she didn't want to be part of any revolution if she couldn't dance. Well, we all know who can dance! That's right, Beyonce! In her latest video, 'Run the World (Girls)', multi-millionaire popstar Beyonce Knowles brings the spirit of Tahrir Square to MTV, celebrating the two most crucial elements of the Arab Spring: state violence and arse-wiggling sex-appeal. Any implication that this might be a strategy to distract attention from the fact that Knowles was paid $1million by the Gaddafi family for a private performance in 2007 is, of course, the work of liars and reprobates."
Whilst not as bad as first feared, the banking bail-out and Gordon Brown's dodgy long-term planning means HIV education services in London are being cut by a whopping 20%.
The news is devastating for HIV prevention charities and comes at a time when those living with the virus has doubled - one in seven gay men on the gay scene is positive. London accounts for 44% of all HIV cases in England.
Fire have pulled-off a very clever coup and attracted Work from Hidden to its Lightbox club - a move that will certainly beef up their midweek offer. Work launched at Hidden but we imagine being that bit nearer Vauxhall is a big plus for them.
Patrick, Works promoter, says "I am thrilled to announce the London’s premier midweek club night Work is moving shortly (from Hidden) to Fire’s uber stylish Lightbox and super sexy Mirror Arch. Every Wednesday 11-4am, and we will be adding some exciting new DJ talent to the team."
We're not sure exactly when this happens or if the new DJ talent is Fire's but will let you know when we know.
(A peaceful protest and then bang! The thugs are the police BTW)
"At least 18 gay rights protesters were arrested today, 28 May, as they tried to stage a banned Gay Pride parade," reports British human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, who was part of the protest group in Moscow.
Peter reports from the scene: "Eight people were seized by the Kremlin: international gay rights supporters Andy Thayer, Dan Choi and Louis-Georges Tin; plus Moscow Gay Pride committee member, Anna Komarova and other Russian gay activists (names unknown)."
Queer Resistance forced a branch of HSBC to shut today as part of their protests against the cuts to HIV services.
They say: Queer Resistance, the lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer and intersex collective and The London Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, part of a worldwide order of 21st Century nuns dedicated to ministrying to the LGBTQ communities, today created a ‘mock’ sexual health clinic outside HSBC on King Street in Covent Garden, as part of UK Uncut’s “Emergency Operation” against Health Secretary Andrew Lansley’s plans for the NHS.
This HSBC branch and at least forty other bank branches in the UK closed today as a direct result of the campaign to save the NHS.
Queer Resistance are to transform a high street bank into sexual health clinic as HIV prevention services in London face 43% cuts.
They tell us that "To highlight the 43% cut in NHS Primary Care Trust funding for HIV prevention services in London1, which particularly puts gay and bisexual men’s health at risk, Queer Resistance - an independent LGBTQI anti-cuts group - plans to transform a major high street bank in central London into a ‘mock’ sexual health clinic on Saturday 28 May."
They're going to meet at Soho Square at noon tomorrow (Saturday) - the place they were subjected to arrest during the Royal Wedding despite having NO plans to do anything naughty?!
So says Father Juan Perez-Soba, a moral theologian from the Vatican. His moral theologic theory goes: Using condoms is not 100% guaranteed to prevent an infection (sometimes they break and you're unlucky etc etc), therefore total abstinence, unless you are a priest when children are fair game, is the answer. Hey - but if you're Catholic you can always do confession: Go in a small darkroom with a priest, say "Forgive me father I have sinned, I fucked with a condom xxx times last week", say three Hail Mary's afterwards and that's all right. Replace xxx with any number 1-100. Get a grip Juan Perez-Soba! More rubbish on the Catholic News Service.
