Something great happened yesterday evening. We got our first new gay owned big old gay bar in years. Manbar Soho opened in what was 79CXR and we're pleased to say it's a big improvement.
They say "Bringing new life to an old venue, a major refit has left the space brand, spanking new. New sound system, new air conditioning and new decor have been brought in to revitalise a location which is part of London’s gay heritage. A new age is upon us."
The soundtrack to Soho’s newest bar will be "mainstream, commercial dance" with London’s best DJs doing residencies including Alessandro Londra, Tony English, Brent Nicholls, Rich B, DJ Minx and Pier Morocco.
There's even talk of "customer service", a free cloakroom service and free WiFi for you Grindr whores. Opening Times are Monday to Wednesday 4pm to 2am, Thursday and Friday 4pm to 3am, Saturday 2pm to 3am, Sunday 2pm to 11pm.
Cover Charge: £3 Monday to Thursday after 10.30pm. £5 Friday to Saturday after 10.30pm.
Police arrested human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell when he unfurled a West Papuan flag as the Indonesian President’s limousine departed Westminster Abbey this week.
Tatchell was wrestled to the ground by the President’s bodyguards and then arrested by Metropolitan Police officers. He had been planning to attempt a citizen’s arrest of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during his State Visit to the UK.
“The President stands accused of war crimes in East Timor and West Papua,” said Mr Tatchell, who is Director of the human rights organisation, the Peter Tatchell Foundation.
Here's the official press release from the venue regarding last weekends deaths: The management and staff of Pleasuredrome Spa are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events of the weekend. "Continnue reading" for the rest...

Pink News reports that "An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy from Brighton have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following an attack in the city’s LGBT district.
The incident happened during the early hours of Friday morning in Kemptown near St James’s Street. Sussex Police say a 42-year-old man received serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment."
Not nice but that's Brighton in our experience. We tried finding a pic of a dog on a string to capture the spirit of Brighton and got this - it's a ned - Scottish version of a chav (Non Educated Delinquent. and a phrase termed long before chav. Julie Burchill's going to be kicking Damaged Control's door in now - talking of... (BTW, cheap shots aside, we think they (Brighton's Pride folks not chavs) should bid to run our Pride tho this London sarcasm might be confirming every bad perception they have of us London types)
Good news given how much many get on the Halloween bandwagon in a half-arsed way. So far the RVT, XXL and Eagle have made us giggle but SOS are pulling a good one too. They say "SOS is having a prom! Hell, not immaculately coiffured kings and queens prancing around the dancefloor. No Mama, this is SOS style - a Halloween warehouse prom - in honour of our beloved misfit Carrie." Poor Carrie, we've all been there - it's often our look going home!
After the serial Close-It Queens shamed London by effectively cancelling World Pride London at the last minute last year, Boris is trying to find fresh folks to take over. He's asking community groups to bid and has pledged £650,000 in grants to the winner. There will now be a professional tendering process which it's hoped will avoid the usual self-elected serial committee queens assuming control and doing their worst.
The Standard claims that "Under the new process, the winning bidder will run the Pride celebrations for five years with a grant agreement from the Mayor of £500,000. The fee for using Trafalgar Square will be waived and an events officer would be assigned to the project, taking the total sponsorship to more than £650,000."
But who will bid? Continue reading, have your say...
