Yeah of course clubs that brand themselves as a muscle mary event attract the admirers of said muscle queens.
That was how Trade always worked. There would be every type of queen, straight, tranny and lesbian. People follow where the beautiful people choose to go. ie. buff, tanned and handsome gay men.
I'm not saying it's right but it is true!
You just have to look at the artwork for Juicy and Matinee to see they are aspirational brands.
Look what happened with Market and Rapido. Not a great turn out for Market but a decent one for Rapido. People voted with their dicks!
Obviously there are plenty of things to do on NYE than do the g bobble in a room with 1000 men that all look the same... I'm pointing out that if Beyond wished to secure that crowd taking the Astoria was a good move.

To think that only the muscle people go to matinee is really stupid. I have been to several matinee parties and i have always seen a very good mixture of people, from the skinny to the bear to the muscle men, to the British, foreign. It is such a wonderful diveristy which reflects London's multi-ethnic and multi-cultural diversity. I went to Megawoof on Saturday and I actually found it soul-less, quite intimidating and not diverse at all.

re "gay muscle NYE party".
I wonder if this market segment might be in decline?????
There is only a certain number of people to go around, a lot of the participants seem to get 'twatted' week in week out, and the continued use of steriods ('on' cycle and 'on' cycle only)is just not sustainable. (Even if in Madrid where according to the previous forums re the 2008 Pride event they put them in the water!)
Plus the effects of the credit crunch/economic downturn which are still feeding through.
Keeping my eyes on the participants at 'The Gym' (Covent Garden) to see if this is bourne out but what do others think?

I think there's more on offer on NYE than just Evolved and Orange events? Stay in and wait for Matinee? Erm, no thanks. Happy to go but there's more on offer that night than the Astoria and Colliseum...
Though I'm not part of the "Gay Muscle" elite, so thankfully I have more options :-)

"gay muscle NYE party" well that says it all! And whats wrong with the rest of us. Clubbing is a party for everyone and thats a typical statement from a minute section of the "pretentious, up your own arse" muscle clan who spend half the night gurnying or preening themselves in the loo mirrors. YUK.......

It's obvious what has happened here in my opinion.
Yes the Astoria is a dump and yes we all know Revolver didn't work as a weekly event however - Revolver being the only gay muscle NYE party would pose a serious problem for Beyond. What was the chance that joint Revolver and Matinee tickets would sell like hot cakes? Quite high in my opinion.
It was just a bold chess move to 'take out' Revolver so the chances of Beyond being busy could be assured. Juicy & Beyond joint tickets will now sell better I imagine. In a peverse way I have to admire the shrewd nature of this move from Orange group. Pure machiavellian stuff really!
I just hope people chill out at home and save themselves for Oliver's party :)

LOL @ "poor state the venue is in" Its been a dump for years and yet is was fine when Revolver was held there. If you were that bothered about the state of the venue why hold an event there in thr first place?

Btw
I have to add
HATE is a strong work .
There is no one on this world i hate and I defiantly don't hate the Orange team ,
I just don't agree the way they conduct business.
Just to clear that up
thanks

Dear Simon
Our last REVOLVER party on the 29th November was not empty at all but financially it was not possible to keep the concept up as a weekly party.
We have had booked the venue and secured a deal with the management for New Years Eve and therefore advertising, photo shoot, flyer and artwork design etc was all ready to go.
Orange went to the venue after they knew we had booked it and offered them that unreal amount of money.
Would you consider that as fair business practise??
We even sold quite a lot of pre-sale and joint tickets for booth REVOLVER/ MATINEE which we now has to be refunded to the customers.
Considering all this I think we have the right to post a statement as this was not the first time that promotions group has underlined another promoter.
They are not really known as a fair player in the game,
or are they ????

the posting by evolved events is pretty irrisponsible and does not entirely tell the whole story,According to a review of the last revolver party last saturday, it was prett much empty. Evolved events decided the next day to pull any future revolver parties from the venue which is quite understandable. The financial losses for both the promotor and the venue must be substantial. it only makes sense for another promotor, whoever that might be to take up this big date in the calender. Oliver, you didnt seem to mind the state of the Astoria(WHICH IS A DUMP)when you were working hard to promote Revolver. so please do not lower yourself to posting about competitive promotors, however much you hate them. It may well come back to haunt you in the future.

Oliver mate, I wouldn't worry about it.
It makes sense that a washed-up rancid old clubnight, would want a decaying dirty old venue.
MATINEE @ COLOSSEUM NYD HERE WE COME!

Matinee is the only place to be seen, were with you oliver ;-) fucking looking forward to this party as i know you will pull out all the stops as you always do, matinee never fails to amaze me, producition wise, music, crowd and atmosphere, PERFECT X

I think most people will see this as an appaling act but for the Astoria its just a business decision. Sadly most of the people who will go to Juicy neither read the websites or care what Orange do or how they do it. I certainly believe that Karma or what goes around comes around will come back and bite them. I hope another venue can step up and give Oliver and his team sowhere else. If not good luck to them for the new year.

It is a mad world isn't it? I can't believe people can do these things! so Orange people have "rented" Fire to "someone" else for the new years's eve and then somehow decided that they must find a venue for JUICY for the new year's, and that venue happens to be Asoria ! that's a surprise! (soap opera perhaps)!! I think gay people should vote with their feet and their pink pounder in future. I can't believe that any one who is aware of what happened would still want to go and celebrate new years's evening at JUICY in Astoria.

Don't let the c*nts get you down Oliver!
Matinee will be THE party to be seen at.

REVOLVER NEWS FLASH !!!!!!!!!!!
WE would like to confirm that we have pulled REVOLVER officially out of the Astoria for New Years Eve after a meeting with the venue management.
The ORANGE GROUP went behind our back and offered the venue a rent of around £10.000.00 for New Year’s Eve which we where not willing to pay because of the poor state the venue is in.
The venue offered us to match the deal which we where not prepared to do.
We are committed to produce and promote high quality events in great club venues and the Astoria did not hit the mark in regards to quality for us to promote that event on a day which is for most one of the most important night’s of the year.
We therefore cancel REVOLVER NYE !!
We will concentrate all our efforts in making MATINEE NYD AFTERHOURS the biggest and best event to start 2009 !!!!!
With all 4 rooms available to us we are able to offer you with MATINEE NYD one of the biggest party's of the New Years Eve Bank holiday.
peace and love
The Evolved Events team
