So how was it?????? (The one on Saturday 20.12.08)

I think this Pandolf is really wasting his time and skills writing long critics in here. You should be running a club or at least advising promoters on how to run a successful club (and make a lot of money) !!! Could you please enlighten us as to where to spend our weekends in London??
Posted by: DIAS | Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at 20:24
Ah, memories of Bolts... aside from one very drunken tearful NYE, when I had no money, no job, no home and no boyfriend (no, not much has changed all these years later), the thing I remember most was dancing onstage with Carol Gianni... and falling off. They couldn't afford go-gos back then, so made do with drunken queens who really should have known better!
Fortunately, I'm much more sensible these days.

Just as well that I'm too 'old and ugly' for these things now.
Remembering when balloon drops at Bolts (Green Lanes) really were the 'in' thing!

LOL,
Pandolf, you again did not your research in regards to Tom Stephan.
When planning REVOLVER I had a chat with Tom who offerd me to be one if my resident Dj's which I agreed too.
Unfortantly he was booked out internationaly until September when I booked him and we came to the inclusion that it will be difficult to bill him as a resident Dj for further partys as he has a bust schedule. So I taken him off the resident Dj list.
No lies here and again your welcome to check with Tom directly.
To have the production values of Matinee at Space will be difficlut to emulate at Colosseum due to the lack of Space in the venue.
In each venue we held the event (fridge, fabric)we tried to make the best out if the space available to us.
Also Eduardo or Brent never played as a resident for Fire...
It's a shame you don't have the balls to reveal your true indentety when posting your verbal assaults and that you hide it behind a funny pseudonym.
Thanks

Would Pandolf like some cod to go with the big chip(s) on his shoulder?
Posted by: diskoboi | Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at 12:15
"lost in your ego," ha. That's ironic. One of your problems, Oliver, is that you have a superiority complex and think little of lying to people. You seem to think that because you work for Matinee that you know infinitely more than everyone else on the club scene, and that this gives you free license to make the claims you do.
I have been to ibiza many times, including each of the last three years, and did both Matinee and Supermartxe this year. Both were so far superior to your "matinee" event that it's not even funny.
I say "fake spanish club" because your version is a pale imitation of the orignal. a few crap dancers and a cheesy lighting fixture do not make it matinee. Your club is definitely more BCM Magaluf than Space Ibiza.
Supertmarxe did have a theme to their show when I was there this year (it was motorcycles) but it was not advertised, did not dominate the entire party and it was certainly not as cheesy as a fucking superbowl party. and it involved much more elaborate props and dancers than any of your shows.
about the music. You had Antoine 909 and Tom Stephan ONCE EACH. And in fact you even lied when Revolver first started saying that Tom Stephan would be a resident DJ.. what a crock. It took you 6 months to even get him to play a single show!
Pagano and Guy Williams play several times in London each week and so your night is nothing special. Yes these are decent DJs, but you also hire Fire-style pop house DJs like Eduardo de la Torre, Paul Heron, and Brent Nichols. The only people that think you're "too underground" (HAHA!) are the people who used to spend entire weekends in Fire's main room until recently.
So sure, get back to your hype machine.. no doubt it takes huge amounts of effort for you to find new ways to spin doctor your next event.
BTW if anyone cares to review what I'm talking about simply select "Matinee" or "Revolver" from the sidebar at left. You can see a catalog of lies and ridiculous claims that Oliver here has made from media for his past events. Things like:
"london's premier promotions group"
"the best production in town"
"London's best music in any club"
"fabric- world's #1 venue"
"the most talked about party of the year"
to be honest, parties that really are any of these things don't need to state it. The ones that are desperate need to plant ideas like these in people's minds.

Hey Pistolpete
Thank you for your post :-)
I heard about Dj Luque and I would be interrested in flying him over and to book him possibly for REVOLVER .
When you go to Madrid have a chat with him and get me his contact details please.
Im more then happy to bring new sounds and Djs to london.
There are some great news for REVOLVER in the next year :-)
I'm looking forward seeing you at the next MATINEE ....
hey DT
I'm listening to everyone because its important to be able to take suggestions on board.
If you don't listen to your punters and your lost in your own ego you might aswell close your clubnights or clubs.
Listening the clubbers is the only way to improve any problems which might have arisen and to make you sure you guys have the best time when out clubbing .

Oliver
I don't want to take sides here, but the only reason people like Pandolf criticise you is because they know you'll listen and take on board the suggestions people make.
Everybody knows Fire only listens to the sound of the till ringing.... that's why people don't bother complaining about Fire.
I too have never made it to Matinee at Colosseum. The strobe in that venue is too strong for me, almost had a seizure once :'(
Posted by: DT | Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at 10:44
The only Matinee part in London I have been to was the very first Matinee at Fabric last year and saw its potential then.
I have not been to a Matinee at the Colosseum yet but I have been hearing very very good things about the music and the people who go.
Why is nobody moaning about Beyond in the same way here?
Is it because you expect nothing more from that team so don't even bother bitching?
Beyond and Fire are really very poor events. Despicable music policy with a rough and ready gay crowd. It's not my idea of happy clubbing.
Unfortunately I am always away or have something else planned whenever Matinee is on these days which is annoying because I think it is the ONLY alternative for a party in London if you wanna do the whole tops-off-stay-out-till-next-morning type gay clubbing here.
Employing djs such as Tom, Antoine, Guy and Pagano etc is a million light years away from the whole Orange aesthetic.
Stop bitching and get on your knees because if Matinee wasn't around.. what else is there left for this type of night out in London??
Exactly!
I'm looking forward to the December Matinee. It will be the weekend after I return from a party weekend in Madrid but I'm going to save some energy for it!
Oliver have you head of a club called Heaven on Sundays in Madrid? Have you ever thought of hiring any of their djs? Such and Dj Luque who is one of my favourite djs.. I'm sure you know all about this club. Can you give any of these guys a go? Heaven on Sundays in Madrid is my absolute number 1 club in the world for the past couple of years.
I'm sure you know about this club because for people in the know, they know about this one.

for what it's worth...
i and all my friends thought the last matinee was the best one yet - mainly due to the quality of the music and the lack of overcrowding - if it's not broke don't fix it i say - that afterparty at union was fantastic too - felt like a proper intimate afterparty with all the DJs mingling and letting their hair down - more of that please
i will be visiting supermartxe but fear it is a bit of a "me too" party in an inferior venue - what the hell has PA therese got to do with supermartxe / ibiza style clubbing anyway - she's just the pitron entourage's perennial air kissing bag carrier
i think logan getting involved with fire is a big mistake - i do think he's talented but the potential for big spectacular shows at fire are limited as the venue is too pokey and disjointed - will probably just involve the usual roided muscle things pushing the punters off the podiums and prancing around out of time to the music for a bit before they go home to their girlfriends - sigh

Dear Pandolf
MATINEE LONDON is not a fake because we are working hand in hand with MATINEE HQ in putting up theses party's.
As I said before I work for them for partys in Spain and Internationaly so why dont you ask MATINEE's Director yourself????
In regards to the LED wall most of our clubbers like and appreciate the effort we put into the party and install a 10 meter video wall for each event .
I have to say tho I want to change things around again and we already working on another great visual addition to the Colosseum.
Reading your last posting I can tell that you if you ever went you haven't been to IBIZA for many years.
If you would have gone you would have noticed that MATINEE, SUPERMARTXE ,Manumission,Space and Souvenir always have a theme for the shows and partys.
This has nothing to do with a school disco.
Also saying that our music policy consist mainly out of Taito Tikaro tracks is a sign that you haven't been to our partys for a while.
We employ some of the most respected Djs like Guy Williams, Pier Morocco, Pagano, and guest dj's have been Ariel ,Tom Stephan , Antoine 909 etc
Some of the MATINEE Dj's might drop sometimes older more commercial tracks like Shine on me but you should listen to the sets all through the night and you will find its very different to any club in London.
The MATINEE Dj's are some of the most respected in the Internatinal club Scene who won many awards in Dj mags.
Some people even find it to underground at times.I guess you can't always please everyone.
This will be my last answer to any of your posts because YOU seem to be the only person who post these attacks against us.
And please, before you post anything in future again make sure you do your researches in regards to Spanish clubs because you seem not to have a clue at all.
Now i have to get back to writing my superlative-laced press blurbs for the Christmas period .........
Posted by: evolved_events | Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at 01:54
Dear Oliver,
I do have decent memories of the early Matinee parties and I think that particularly when you first started throwing the party that it was different and new, but I think we are coming to a point where this kind of party is getting stale. Your LED wall was a bit of a novelty when you first brought it in but now that it's at every party it's about as exciting as a ballloon drop at G-A-Y. Kind of like Fire's main-room LED ceiling that was hyped in advance of every Fire event during its first year. Obviously Matinee has seen success and now similar parties are emerging, but I think this is evidence that things are stagnating once more. Instead of yet another fake-Spanish superclub, why can't promoters try something new.
And I must admit that something I find particularly annoying about Evolved Events are your superlative-laced press blurbs, advertising things like "the hottest production, the hottest guys and girls in town and London’s best music in any club." Seriously? Only if your idea of the "best music" is hearing cheesy Taito Tikaro & co cuts all night.
Even advertising Matinee as an "Ibiza-style" party is a stretch. Since when did any self-resepcting club in Ibiza host "space invaders" and "superbowl" parties? It's all very School Disco. And again, it's worth noting that horizon at Fire has been hosting similarly ridiculous themed parties for ages. This sort of stuff insults the intelligence of any knowledgeable clubber.
These statements are the same kind of ludicrous claims that Orange prints in their press material: the best this, the hottest that. It's becoming increasingly difficult to see the difference between the Evolved Events of today and the Orange of yesteryear. Even much of the Matinee Crowd is ex-Juicy. Matinee at the Collisseum feels like a weak version of the old Beyond with its awkward new layout. I do concede that the lack of good venues in London is not your fault.
And so I think the scene may be set for Matinee and Evolved Events to go the same way Fire has, unless you stop treating the club like a hype machine and innovate instead. I have absolutely no interest in trying something like this myself. I am simply a commentator. You do not have to own a restaurant in order to be a dining critic. and I'm not saying you can't make better of the current situation, so good luck.

Oliver, if you're looking for a big venue outside Vauxhall, maybe you should check out the news on www.homovision.tv about the Fridge... It's all looking a lot less orange!

Well said and well-done Oliver.
for me Matinee has been a breath of fresh air, badly needed in London, especially in the last 12 months. The last few parties at Matinee were fantastic with excellent music. That DJ from Barcelona last time (Argentini) was awsome. Despite the state of the toilets the colossium is still a good venue and very spacious. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not want to venture out of Vauxhall because it could mean taking the risk. These days my favourite places are RVT, Matinee and MegaWoof, and I don't go every week end.
Posted by: DIAS | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 13:59
Hey DT
I think it a combination of things you pointed out.
I think the clubbing behaviour of the clubbers in general is changing all the time and it goes through cycles over the years.
The reason why people stopped going out I think is because we have a change of generations at the moment and people who where growing up with DT,LOVE MUSCLE,TRADE etc have now either stopped going out clubbing totally or they have responsible jobs and putting the them first .
I also think that online dating site like Gaydar are to blame for the decrease of clubber out in clubs and the drugs of choice for most clubbers certainly changed to the worst.
I think that clubbing has become a big business for some club owners and the creativity has been ditched for more profitable factorised clubbing formulas which might also a reason why people don’t go out clubbing anymore.
The state of the economy is also a reason why people stay away from clubs.
I don’t really know why people are drawn to Vauxhall but MATINEE at the Colosseum is getting busier and busier with each party.
Maybe gay people feeing safer in an area where there is a big community which is a shame because it transports us back to the dark ages when gay people where ghettorised.
Posted by: evolved_events | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 13:44
Oliver
Your comment is insightful. Here's an honest question (as I am genuinely interested):
You have pointed out a couple of trends (please correct me if I'm wrong):
a) numbers are declining
b) gay people are rejecting non-Vauxhall clubbing?
But _why_ is this happening?
Maybe by thinking about those questions we can find an answer to the "stale clubbing conundrum".
Is it that:
a) the economy is keeping people indoors.
b) drugs have evolved and just aren't the same anymore.
c) people are, on average, becoming healthier.
d) music tastes are changing.
e) eagerness to dance and party is declining.
f) increased eagerness amongst gay men to have routine casual sex.
g) something entirely different?
If numbers are declining, it must mean there is a legion of men preferring to sit at home every weekend. It follows that there are two scenarios:
1. These men have rejected clubbing entirely and will never be made to go out again.
2. These men no longer enjoy the current clubbing experiences on offer. If this is the case, then surely the answer is to find what they are looking for...
On a slightly different note, have you (has anyone) approached matter about holding a gay(mixed?) party there?
Posted by: DT | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 12:33
Bravo Oliver!
I think it is widely acknowledged that you have offered the gay scene a much needed boost in 2008.
and... you did it with style and good manners :)
It's a shame about Revolver but at least you put it out there. We need more people out on this scene like you.

Its very interesting to hear what you think but I would to clear a few things up here.
I feel that 90% of people on DD are using this website to write some good criticism and opinions about they experience when out clubbing.
This criticism is good because we club promoters rely on feedback and criticism to ion out any problems and to enhance your clubbing experience.
I don’t agree however with the other 10% of comments slating the London Dj’s and promoters / Clubnights.
This slating is one of the reasons why great clubbing icons like DT and other do not exist anymore.
Some promoters do work hard to try to change the club scene and make it more exiting again.
The constant attack against MATINEE and other club nights is getting really boring.
If you guys just would know just how much we invest into the MATINEE party's at the Colosseum in regards to production and the massive LED.
We actually did not wanted to move MATINEE away from fabric and to Vauxhall but we had to because the numbers of clubber where declining slightly with each party.
We also tried to give London a new new night which is a English version of the European clubbing concept which is REVOLVER and we had the balls to put it on outside Vauxhall in Kings Cross at the Scala.
Unfortunately we where not able to change peoples habit on going out just in Vauxhall with offering something different in a different location.
I’m a Dj in the first place and for me its more important to create a good night out instead of making money from our punters.......
MATINEE LONDON is a club created by clubbers for clubbers.
I work for MATINEE in Spain since 10 years now mainly as a Dj but I also organise some of International tour dates for the HQ.
MATINEE LONDON is as much MATINEE as you can get in London because of the lack of god venues.
Remember we had MATINEE at fabric which is considered as London’s best venue and I’m always looking for a new venues which would suit MATINEE the best.
In regards to Logan , he is NOT working for us and EVOLED EVENTS anymore because he decided to start doing his own project (SUPERMARTXE) and after he left EVOLVED EVENTS he has started working for FIRE and the Orange organisation.
SUPERMARTXE is nothing to do with MATINEE LONDON or EVOLVED EVENTS but we wish them good luck with they venture.
We where thinking of putting on some SOUVENIR special party in the big SPACE IBIZA and SOUVENIR BCN style but only when we have found the right venue for this OUTSIDE Vauxhall.
I think the London scene has began to thrive again and to offer more choice for all the clubbers and if I remember rightly at the beginning of 2008 we only had 1 Vauxhall club left to go out clubbing to because clubs like like DT and others had closed down.
But this is only because some people have had the guts to invest money in new nights.
I hope this explains my feelings little
(BTW Pandolf , why don't you promote a night yourself and put your money where your mouth is.
Its getting boring you tirade against us and our party's,if you think you can do it better ,just do it)
Thanks to everyone who supports the London club scène and helps it staying exiting .
Oliver

The big positive of having this party at Fire is they bring in a different DJ every time. This is something I feel they should do more often. Who was at A:M when they had Hoxton Whores? It was a great night...and these Space nights at Fire do at least offer something slightly different to the usual Saturdays.
Space Ibiza a sun-kissed superclub? Sure, but funnily enough that place used to be a conference centre...not a million miles away from Mattinee's current Vauxhall venue is it? ha ha.
If Fire really want to emulate Space Ibiza...why don't they get the We Love... promotions team involved? Sundays at Space is one of the best parties on the planet.
Posted by: JR | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 10:44
I agree, they all have the same sound the same buffed smooth Latino dancers - where the new dynamic formulae the Gay Scean was all about years ago - I have to say even Megawoof is geeting naff - poor music and a group of guys only there to strutt and not have a good time - bring back the days of Love Muscle where every one of every size and shape came together to party and have fun - not stutt and give attitude! Remeber there was a time when one Dj played the whole set - not 10 playing an hour each from the same record box! so the same dull commercial gay house over and over and over again - ugh, no wonder they take G the only way to have fun is to be oblivious! - opps sorry monday morning rant!
Posted by: jack | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 10:10
Pandolf I could not agree more!
Lack in creativity...
I stopped going at these events a while ago; hearing the same djs, playing the same tracks over and over again.
Watch the last matinee video...Shine on me, still?
I stop here cause I could go forever.
Posted by: Madgefun | Monday, 17 November 2008 at 09:23
Well yes, that's logan of evolved events.. logan who's also involved with matinee, supermartxe and souvenir in London. can you spot the pattern?
honestly it's pretty ridiculous. all these spanish club supposedly setting up camp in London, yet they're all run by the same UK-based people and not really that different from each other at all. I think once people clue into this and realise that all these supposed spanish clubs are really just local, artificial carbon copies of each other then it will all go the same way as the cookie cutter Orange group parties that have already crashed and burned. logan and co are on to a gimmick and they're milking it to the dregs just as orange did. can't really fault them for trying, but they are seriously lacking in creativity and so it's hard to imagine that london clubbers won't become disenchanted at some point.
