Evolved events proudly announce that Matinée London returns to Saturday nights in a new home, SuperClub Colosseum, for parties every second Saturday of the month commencing Saturday September 13th.
When Matinée came to London it hoped to revitalise the London gay scene. Since its debut at Area, Matinée has been held in major club venues including The Fridge, Fabric and Colosseum; each time taking an innovative and forward-thinking approach to not just the production but also venue layout and, most of all, the music.
After a successful season at Fabric the Evolved Events team decided to hold a massive bank holiday Matinée SuperBowl party on the 24th August at the Super Club Colosseum in London Vauxhall.
In keeping with Matinées ethos of uniquely adapting venues for their nights, Colosseum's main room was transformed into a high-tec dance arena with a specially installed giant 10 metre LED wall. High profile guests included Danny Tenaglia (direct from his SW4 gig) and Jake Shears, lead singer of the Scissor Sisters. With in excess of 2,200 clubbers in attendance, partying right through from 23:00 to 11:00 the following day, Matinée has firmly established itself as one of London's hottest tickets.
We can now proudly announce that Matinée is back for a Saturday night spot at the Colosseum every second Saturday of the month.
The first party of the new Saturday night slot will be on the 13th September 2008 and called ¡Viva Matinée! which will celebrate everything Spanish. The DJ line-up will consist of Matinée's resident Jordi Lights, one of Matinée London's most popular who twice set Fabric alight with his amazing sets, plus our stable of pedigree DJs including:
• Oliver M
• Pagano (playing one of his now-famous Matinée after-hours sets)
• Lisa German
• Ariel
• Pier Morocco
• Eduardo de la Torre
• Blind Pig
• Micky Galliano
Matinée will, once again run from 23:00 to 11:00 Sunday morning making it the perfect destination for a Saturday night or a Sunday morning after-hours.
For more information on Evolved Events and Matinée London / Revolver and to purchase limited early bird tickets please visit Evolved Events' website.
¡Viva Matinée! is on Saturday 13th September from 11:00pm until 11:00am at Club Colosseum . Entry: £10.00 (early bird, for a limited time). £12.00 in advance. More on the door. Reduced entry price after 05:00.

I had a blast on saturday. Well done guys, another great party. Paul Heron's set was fantastic, my favourite of the night. Along side that with some other nice touches (such as the sparklers) it was a really fun night

I'm not sure I really get it.. neither of those Trade videos look very exciting to me and the atmosphere seems pretty typical of any club.

Have to agree with Tony, Sat night was outstanding. Everything was plain perfect, from the overall production, to the LED panel and last but not least music: Pier Morocco, Jordi Lights and Pagano delivered almost 7 hours of outstanding music and everybody I know loved it. Definitely the only monthly party worth going.

Surely you judge the success of a club by the number of people that go through the doors every week. I avoided the glamour of a VIP pass (I know Oliver very well!) and sneaked in after work with a couple of mates for the first time. I loved the vibe, loved the music and loved the craziness of the clubbers. It took me back years, when people really enjoyed themselves and made a few, if odd, friends..lol.
I had a party and left smiling, dancing and looking forward to the next. After years of clubbing, Trade included, there have always been blogs of a sort with negative moaners. Some of you really need to get a life and realise that it's only somewhere to go for a night out in between everything else that happens socially. Enjoy those promoters who spend the money and put in hours of effort, panic and stress. Cheers Oliver and next time I expect you to buy me a drink....hehe.

not really sure what to say, but i have only been going to trade since the 11th birthday andi have alawyas had a good time, people say og its lost its way, its not as good as the old days blah blah blah, but can sumone tell me why people always seem to pick on trade regarding this..... u never hear people say " oh fire has lost its way, its not as good as t used to be" is this becuase all these other gay clubs never had any atmosphere or excitment in the 1st place. trade has been going for nearly 20 years which i think is quite an achivment. and there r still plenty of good clubs that play good hard house try hard on, twist, kaos, trade,
yes hard house has a smaller following then i used to have, but so have many other things...once again music stlyes have been changing the past couple of years with funky house going out and harder/eletro house coming in,, which seems to be getting dirtier and harder by the minute.

Hard music is still available in Vauxhall. I run Twist and we hold regular parties several times a month at the Colosseum. Next one is Friday night 19th Sept. Karim is joined by special guest Ian M so stop yer moaning and get your arses down - lol.
There is choice out there you just need to look through all the smoke thrown out by Fire!;-)

Matinee music is chessy and comercial. Also they keep advertising expensive Djs they never book.

I loved Trade for many years, it was the highlight of clubbing, then a change happened, the crowd stayed more in Trade Lite room than the main floor, the Hard House music lost it's following and everyone wanted the lighter sound. I went to NYC and discovered "Earth" with Jnr Vasquez, the "Chelsea Boys Set" in NYC would go to the bars late evening then go home, refresh, and go to Earth at 5am, Jnr played a lighter house sound. I came back to London and told a promoter about it and said the change was coming, how about doing a House style afterhours in Vauxhall. At the time the venues were not ready for it nor the Licensing. Then about 3 months later Beyond happened on Gay Pride weekend and was an instant success. Hard House is not around so much now because the drugs have changed, people wanted a lighter sound to dance to. Spain has been a pioneer of the after hours clubbing. That's why Matinee is so popular, good production and a "Baleric" style music sound. Much as I love Trade I really think that harder sound just hasn't got the following anymore. But I reckon there is room for the occasional night maybe mixed with a more progressive style... It just a shame that the Vauxhall clubs all use the same DJ's playing the same tracks time and time again......

You are spot on Kevin. Unfortunately for those of us who like the Trade style clubbing - i.e. having lots of fun, we are a minority on the gay scene as it seems most people like the head up their own arses style of Vauxhall clubbing. In the meantime here is the last dance at the Last Dance - totally awesome and a great memory.

Danny Tenaglia was our VIP guest at the last MATINEE and yes pandolf , he loved the party and the changes we have made to the venue.
Danny is actualy a good friend of mine and MATINEE. We have dj'ed together a few times in the past.
He is quite expensive to book and as the Di said with expectations of the London crowd to get into a club for £12 pounds a promoter is not able to make any money. Iam however are talks with him and other high profile dj's and clubs for some great REVOLVER partys at the Scala in the coming month.

Actually the arches in London Bridge is a huge venue, when all open, about 2000 capcity i think!..always thought is was a GREAT venue, just awfull music when XXL is on there.
Though me know what the rumour mill is like in London, so we won't count of chickens till we hear the news properly....no matter how much we hope its true :o)

P.S. Any promoter who'd like to offer me a job? I'll bring them fresh new dynamic Venues and some unheard of production ideas. But please think before contacting me, I am not about to give any ideas away without a signed contract with a salary and commission on results tied to it! C'mon anyone out there brave enough to bring a new fresh generation of Clubbing to London?

Come on guys basic maths
Danny Tetaglia or say David Guetta £5000 + Exp + Rider + Guestlist total notional say £7500
"Super Club Colosseum" rental for the night say £1500 for the 12 hours
capacity say 1500 best guess at say 500 at £10 and 850 at £12 = £15200
Other DJ's + production + advertising + residuals (Flyer boys, door whores, phone calls, printing etc etc)
Say 2 hour sets at say average £80 an Hr + residuals (Drinks guestlist and taxi's)
2 rooms = 20 hrs = £2000
2 x door whores = £150
Blah Blah need I go on!
It is not rocket science to work out that paying £10/12 entry to an event is going to get you exactly what you pay for.
Having produced events in the past, many of you will remember my parties at Fire and 333 (LAX as it was known then) I have a profound understanding of the costs involved and the simple reason that big name DJ's don't do much of anything on the Scene is because you the punter is not prepared to pay £20 average (admission @ Pascha for Club Azuli feat Steve Angello) to go to a venue and expect a Rolls Royce on an Austin Allegro budget rather unrealistic wouldn't you agree!

"away from the centre of gay action"!! How sad is that. Vauxhall has become a ghetto and a disaster in design, cooperation and friendliness. RVT and Eagle are the only survivors of this mess.
There's gay action all over London, from North to South and East to West. If people can't be bothered to get up off their lazy fat arses and move to where the fun is, then they shouldnt bother.

Danny Tenaglia definitely did not play at Matinee... he's far too expensive for Evolved Events! DT was playing at SW4 earlier in the day and played a pretty wicked set on the main stage, intro'ing for Carl Cox. I can't imagine what DT must have thought of Matinee.. it's a world away from the old Vinyl in NYC.
Posted by: Pandolf | Friday, 12 September 2008 at 12:02
It would be good to see Trade return on a regular basis in a small venue close to the Vauxhall village. Egg/Apothecary are just too far away from the centre of gay action. It is sad that people won't make the effort but it is a fact I'm afraid.

The Orange Group tried to kill their competition for years, Now they finally done it but killed themselves too in the process as they never shown any talent and people stopped going to Fire. Craig Elder, please stand up..

Oh My God!!!
Just found out Trade are at the Arches at London Bridge for their birthday at the end of October!

I think high profile guests meaning VIP not guest DJ - How ever i could be wrong.

I always said when DTPM was suffering on a Sunday it should have moved to a Saturday or during the day on a Sunday. Perhaps DTPM should consider opening from 11AM Sunday & soak up the overflow from Matinee & Beyond otherwise Fire will gain from this crowd.
I'm sure Matinee & DTPM could collaborate & pull something off to start hammering the nails into the dreadful outfit Orange Group. Union would be the obvious venue so people can roll out of one venue to another. . .

They had Danny Tenaglia play?!?! A world class DJ at a London gay club?!!? WOW!!!!!!
How was it? Did people realise who they were dancing to? Was his music good?

Looks like Matinee is coming to London in a big way - having experienced their parties in Barcelona and Ibiza, this can only raise the standards in London - things have been getting a bit stale of late - looking forward to this party!
